Dear Grandma-
Happy Birthday!
I wish I could put to words the love I have for you! The memories we share are
treasures that I hold deep in my heart!
You always took such GOOD care of me.
If I could describe how you always made me feel, I’d have to say
warm and loved.
I loved living so close to you! I loved being
able to ask you almost every weekend if I could spend the night. It didn’t matter if you had plans to get your
hair done or visiting teaching, you would take me with you. The nights that I’d spend the night were filled
with fun memories. We would stay up late
and watch all the cartoons you had! I
loved especially watching “The Swan Princess” and “The Secret Garden”. Then as I grew older, you taught me to love the
real classics like “State Fair”, “Pollyanna”, and “Meet Me in St. Louis”.
You always
looked out for me from pestering big brothers and big sister, then usually
sneak me a cookie of some kind ;) It was
always our little secret. Not to
mention you always left a stash of yummy candy canes for me by the door.
Then there was
all the games you would play with me. I
don’t know how many times we played Skip-Bo.
I never knew how to play until you taught me when I got older, but when
I was little you would just play with me and let me count to 12 however I
wanted to, and take cards from whatever pile I felt like. You always made sure I won. You also made sure that there were cars to
play with. That was one of my favorite things.
I remember you would play with me and the cars on the floor. Such fun memories!!
You were always
supportive of me! You always came to my games, weather they were home or
away. You guys would go all the way to
Hagerman, just to watch me play. I
always knew I could count on you, smiling and cheering everyone on. (In high school people told me all the time
how you and grandpa were the coolest grandparents.) You were at my baptism, wedding, graduations,
plays, and every other activity I have ever participated in. Everything I ever did, I remember you being
there! You have sacrificed so much for
me (both seen and unseen), and I am so thankful!!!!!
Your home is one
that I always felt comfortable in. I
could always be myself. I always knew
that the prophet was important to you, because you have always had a picture of
him by your front door. I have made sure
in my house to have a picture of the prophet in my home, and I have you to
thank for that. I also remember when you
used to serve in the temple. It was the
one weekend that I couldn’t stay at your house.
By serving in the temple, I knew it was important to you, and I always
have had a desire to go, because it was important to Grandma. I have also had a love for watching plays
because you and Grandpa took me to so many.
I love watching live plays. There
are so many things that you taught me to enjoy, that made me different than the
world and I am so grateful for that!!
I am most
thankful that you live the gospel and most importantly showing me. You are such a great example of
discipleship. You are so kind and
patient. You are a true nurturer. An
Angel on earth, that watches over everyone!!!
I love you Grandma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Sincerely Love
You-

Dear Grandpa-
We have some fun filled memories together!!!!!!! You always have such a jolly countenance. Always joking around and having a good time. You have such a happy spirit!
You have taught me so much!!! For example, you taught me how to do the jig, click my tongue, how to actually listen to the question being asked (…Expealidocious… Can you spell that?), how to give a real handshake (No Fish Handshakes), how to bake cookies, how to bake bread, and how to give a real hug (measuring arms while you always say “EEEEeeee”, a tradition I have taught Paxon). You always had a new vocabulary word for me to learn. I remember one of the words was ignominious. You would say, “That was an ignominious defeat”, if we won a game (which was pretty rare), nonetheless, I knew what you were talking about.
I will always remember getting measured, either by shirt buttons or the game closet door. I remember right before we would leave your house we would get a chance to see if we had grown. As we would leave, you would always walk out and wave bye to us. Then we would honk our horn and drive away, which is another tradition we carry on.
Thank you so much for the man you are! I always knew that you loved our Savior. You are so kind to those around you and take good care of the people around you. I am so thankful that I was born into this awesome family. A family that you and grandma created. I especially love that we have the gospel, the best gift anyone could receive. You are such a great example of enduring! You have gone through so much in the war, yet you stood up for yourself. You can hardly see, but you never let your circumstances give you an excuse to be disobedient to God’s commandments. That takes courage and great character! You are a remarkable man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
