Ann & Dayn Family
Well, what are my memories of my mom and dad? There are so many, and they are all good!!! Sleeping on mom's lap during 2 hour sacrament meetings-beginning at 8:00 pm. :( Red velvet cake hot out of the oven with cold milk poured over the top, oh so yummy! Burning the ditch banks and to this day I still LOVE the smell of burning ditch banks! :) Hand churned home made vanilla ice cream and if you wanted chocolate, mom would just add a tablespoon of Nestles Quik and-viola! Chocolate ice cream. Running into mom and dad's room on Saturday morning-before cartoons-and jumping on Dads belly and saying nursery rhymes, opposites, and all kinds of mind games. And of course before you could leave, you had to tell Dad if you were a hoop-tee-do, a fumps-tee-do, or a thingamajig. Hmmmm, the one thing I never learned on Dads belly was how to spell all those words!!! Hot homemade rolls or bread and if we were lucky there might be some raspberry jam magically appearing from the fridge! A new homemade dress appearing out of no where. Dad coming home for lunch nearly everyday, I would wait on the porch and start hollering as soon as I saw the white station wagon start up the lane. Exercising with Mom to Jack Lalane, ironing hankies and pillow cases with my own little iron and ironing board while Mom did the hard work. Playing at the church while mom washed all the little tiny glass sacrament cups. Kite flying, Givens Hot Springs, trips to the Bonanza 88 cent store to get little surprises for whoever had a birthday coming up.
Mom taught me how to sew, cook and be kind to others even when I didn't feel like it; "Its nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!" And, "You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar!" Dad taught me to keep at a job till it was finished, no matter how hard, what the cost, or how tired you are. They taught me not to discard anything worth fixing, especially relationships.
As I grew older I came to understand the monetary and emotional selflessness that each of my parents showed in all instances. As I grew older I came to understand that we didn't go to church just because it was Sunday and there was nothing else to do-we went because Mom and Dad each had a deep testimony and a love for the Savior and how important it was to instill that in each of us. How grateful I am to each of them for their lives of selfless service and patience for me, their positive outlook on life, and for raising me to adulthood without killing me! I have thanked my Heavenly Father almost every night of my life for my "Goodly Parents"--Nephi wasn't the only one who was blessed with a set of those!!!
Mom and Dad-- I love you to the moon and back!!!
Love your little caboose, Ann
